La Coqueta
La Coqueta is a Spanish heritage brand based in London. Established in 2013 by Celia Munoz, the brand was inspired by the timeless children's clothing she grew up wearing in Spain. To this day, each collection continues to be lovingly crafted in "small" family-run workshops across Spain. This attention to detail can be seen in every piece, from hand-smocked cotton dresses and the wool coats for winter to the patent Mary Janes, and in the ribbed knee-high socks. At Gardenia Home, we are proud to offer a carefully curated selection of La Coqueta clothing for babies and children.
Every La Coqueta garment is made in Spain by skilled artisans in family-run workshops, many of whom have been perfecting their exceptional craft for generations. Celia Munoz, who is from Granada, draws inspiration from the traditional dresses worn by Spanish girls one or two generations ago. One of the brand's signature details is its hand-smocking. Each smocked panel is stitched by hand and can take up to seven hours of an artisan's day, which is an extraordinary effort for the bodice of a child's dress, and exactly why a La Coqueta dress is treasured and worn for years rather than simply replaced.
"La Coqueta" means well-groomed & elegantly presented in Spanish. Rooted in the Spanish tradition of dressing children beautifully from an early age, every garment proudly carries the words, "Proudly Made by Artisans." The dresses and baby sets are plain 100% cotton. It is soft and lasts after washing ensuring children can move & play with extreme comfort.
La Coqueta dresses suit the big occasions whether it’s a christening, a wedding or Christmas lunch with the family. But a hand-smocked Silvana or Scarlett does not wait for an occasion, and it is likely to be worn to nursery the following Tuesday. If cold weather hits, the Henrietta and Arrieta wool blend coats & offer warmth without compromising on elegance. Complete the look by simply adding a pair of ribbed knee high socks and black patent or burgundy velvet Mary Janes.
The relaxed cuts leave room to run in and get through a birthday party. Most pieces are machine washable, however, the wool coats require a gentler wash to preserve their beautiful finish.
For babies from newborn to age three, the baby clothing is mostly dress-and-bloomer sets, several of them are hand-smocked, like the Silvana, Scarlett and Petra. Made from 100% cotton, these pieces are soft on skin, easy to care for and designed to keep up with busy days.
For older girls aged between two to ten, the collection expands into the day dresses, including the Arcadia empire-line hand-smocked dress, the brand's most popular and iconic style, and the rose-floral Silas, alongside the wool coats. Signature ribbed socks reach furthest, with sizes ranging from newborn to age ten, ensuring best styles can be enjoyed throughout the childhood.
La Coqueta baby collection includes beautiful crafted dresses and bloomer suits made from 100% cotton, mostly for children aged newborn to three years in age. Many styles feature hand smocking, including the Silvana in burgundy floral, the Scarlett in a pink bird print, and the Petra in green floral. The small sizes also have knee-high socks made with cotton.
Each La Coqueta piece is handmade in Spain by skilled artisans. A single hand-smocked bodice can take up to 7 hours to complete. It's designed with quality and longevity in mind made to be treasured, passed down and enjoyed for generations. La Coqueta has also attracted a loyal following among style-conscious families, most notably a collaboration with Nicky Hilton Rothschild, a 21-piece "Mama & Mini" capsule collection co-designed with founder Celia Munoz and inspired by Hilton's own childhood memories.
Because La Coqueta does not follow seasonal trends. Classic silhouettes, delicate prints and quality fabrics ensure each piece remains beautiful. A dress purchased from seasons ago still feels elegant today, making each garment timeless to a child’s wardrobe.
The collection includes day dresses for girls aged two to ten, including the hand-smocked Silvana and Scarlett, the Silas in rose floral and the Arcadia, La Coqueta's most popular hand-smocked, empire-line dress. Seasonal pieces include the Henrietta and Arrieta wool-blend coats, along with classic accessories such as black patent and burgundy velvet Mary Janes and ribbed knee-high socks in timeless shades of stone, white, dusty blue, and burgundy.
La Coqueta honours traditional Spanish craftsmanship through details such as hand-smocking, ric-rac trims, peter-pan collars and small velvet bows. At the same time, the designs are updated with modern softer colors & refined prints. The result is clothing that feels traditional yet wearable today.
